Aliso Viejo is a medium-sized city nestled in the San Joaquin Hills in Orange County, California. The city has around ten neighborhoods and is the 180th largest community in the state. The city spans 6.92 square miles of land area. The 2018 population estimate was 51,783 and the estimated population density is around 7,470 people per square mile. It is a wealthy community compared to both state and federal economic standards. It is definitively white-collar in nature, with nearly 91%of the local workforce holding/working white-collar positions. Uniquely, nearly 9% of the local workforce works from home, via telecommuting, freelance efforts, and home-based businesses. In addition, Aliso Viejo is home to a sizable percentage of artists, media workers, and designers. According to the 216, City Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, the top five employers in the community were the United Parcel Service, Pacific Life, Capistrano Unified School District, Flour, and Quest Software. Many companies call Aliso Viejo home, including Marie Callenders, Ketel One, Carbine, Studios, UST Global, Vertos Medical, and many more. In 2017, the estimated median household income was $112,026, and the estimated per capita income was $48,849. In the same year, the estimated median house or condo value was $637,574, the mean housing price on all housing units was $709,856 and the median gross rent was $2,206.
This community was the first planned community in the state that was planned to include a good balance between workers and work available. The community was incorporated in 2001 and continues to thrive now. The youth of the city are educated by the schools of the Capistrano Unified School District.
