Mission Viejo is a larger/medium commuter city nestled in Orange County, California. It is the 75th largest community in the state and has approximately twenty neighborhoods. It is also one of the largest master-planned communities in the United States. It is a thriving suburban city, which is primarily, but not exclusively residential, and is known for having lovely tree-lined streets. It has a council-manager form of city government and the city motto is “Making Living Your Mission.” It is a family-friendly community with a plethora of family-oriented services. The community is blessed with low crime rates, excellent schools, and a large population of college-educated adults that will help keep the focus on educational efforts. Over 47% of adults in the community hold four-year degrees or more, which is more than twice the average for education in U.S. communities.

 It is a warm and stable community consisting primarily of single-family homes with high rates of homeownership/owner occupancy. It is known for its clean green spaces and perfect for families, retirees, singles, and professionals. It is a warm welcoming, highly diverse community. The majority of residents identify themselves as belonging to one or more three main racial categories, Caucasian, Asian or Hispanic. The most common ancestry types are German, English, Irish, Italian, and Iranian. English remains the main language in the community, followed by Spanish and Persian.

Mission Viejo spans 18.07 square miles of predominantly land area. It is a wealthy community in comparison to both state and national economic standards. It is a white-collar community where approximately 89% of the workforce is white-collar in nature. Over 9% of the local workforce works from home, via telecommuting, home-based businesses, and freelance efforts. In 2017, the population was 96,016 and the estimated population density is around 5,446.72 people per square mile. In 2017, the estimated median household income was $102,787, and the estimated per capita income was $45,452. In the same year, the median house or condo value was $694,000, the mean price on all housing units was $749,695 and the median gross rent was $2,199. Among the cities, top employers are Mission Hospital, Saddleback College, Capistrano Unified School District Nordstrom, and Macy’s.

The city has a wonderful semi-arid Mediterranean climate which encourages an active outdoor lifestyle. Public education in the community is provided by the schools of Capistrano Unified School District and Saddleback Valley Unified School District. The city has convenient bus services through the Orange County Transit Authority and rail services from Metrolink and the Orange County Line.
