Learn more about San Clemente
San Clemente is a medium-sized coastal city in beautiful Orange County, California. It is approximately the 130th largest community in the state and features about a dozen unique neighborhoods. Nestled between Los Angeles and San Diego, this bustling community is the southernmost community in the county. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area and the city slogan is “Spanish Village by the Sea.” The city features gorgeous views of the ocean, mountain, hill, and beach as well as beautiful Spanish colonial-style architecture. It is, to some degree, a nautical community with a rich history connected to the ocean, as well as plenty of sunshine and waterfront activities to attract both tourists and residents alike. Over 49% of adults in San Clemente have four-year degrees or more, which is more than twice the educational average for U.S. communities. It is a wealthy community compared to both state economic standards and federal standards.
The city spans 19.12 square miles of predominantly land area, and it is an extremely diverse community in terms of almost any labels you explore, from ethnicity and race to religion, age, sexual orientation, and more. English remains the primary written and spoken language in the city, followed by Spanish and German/Yiddish. It is a decidedly white-collar community where more than 88% of the workforce is white-collar in nature and over 13% of the workforce works from home. Most of these workers telecommute, have home-based businesses or work at freelance endeavors like artistry and more. In 2017, the estimated median household income in San Clemente was $101,743, and the estimated per capita income was around $54,619. In the same year, the thriving city had estimated median house or condo values of $894,500, a mean price on all housing units of over $1,000,000, and a median gross rent of $1,830 monthly. The area that would one day be San Clemente was basically uninhabited when the Spaniards colonized the area beginning in 1776. Father Junipero Serra established the Mission San Juan Capistrano and began to try and convert the native tribes of the surrounding areas. A community didn’t really get started in the area until around 1925. But it was officially incorporated rather quickly, by the end of February in 1928. The historic San Clemente pier was constructed the same year. The city features beautiful beaches, the historic pier, and many historic buildings. Today the thriving urban city is warm welcoming and the epitome of California living.
