My Takeaways from Jon Cheplak’s Event

You don’t need to be great at everything.

You need to be great at what you do.

This last weekend, I went to Vegas to Cheplak’s event for business leaders. As always, there were a ton of takeaways (23 to be exact) for me.

The most important is what I wrote down as my first takeaway.

“You have no excuse not to hit your potential” – Jon

Pretty similar to the biggest takeaway I had at the last event in Tahoe. Which was, “I need to be better. Always”.

Watching 20+ business leaders present a topic that they do well, one thing became crystal clear.

You don’t need to be great at everything.

You need to be great at what you do.

So many agents try to do everything in front of them when, most often, they need to get better at what they already do. Back to basics isn’t enough. Doing the basics exceptionally well is the new standard.

At least, it is if you want to be successful in this market.

Here is what I’m going to do with my business when we review our takeaways and decide what to put in place.

Step One – Don’t start with a whole new project.

What are the things that we learned that we can add to what we are already doing? Take what we’re doing well and make it better. Don’t recreate the wheel. (remember the last message I sent?)

This allows us to make small and easy adjustments to what we’re already doing.

Step Two – Determine if new projects are better opportunities than existing ones

Go after the biggest opportunities that are closest aligned to what we’re already doing.

Not rocket science. Simple. Not easy.

All the speakers were team leaders and/or broker-owners, yet all their businesses were different. The one principle for all their companies was that they provide tremendous value.

There isn’t one right way to do things. The same goes for agents.

Whatever your business looks like now, you could be in a completely different place 90 days from now. You have to make a decision. The one that puts you on the path to get where you want to be.

I’ve already committed to making more content to help the agents on our team have more resources. But also agents in the marketplace.

With abundance comes tremendous value.

On that note, I took our sales process at Onyx Homes and made a free training to anyone who wants to see how we’re converting leads in this market. Feel free to copy and paste this into your business.

Finish the year strong!
